Currently on display in Main Branch Rotary Room: "Fusion" by Sébastien Lelasseux, B.F.A
Artist’s Note:
My surroundings have always been my primary source of inspiration for my artwork. For a long time, I have been trying to depict the natural environment with a more realistic approach. Lately, I have started creating paintings that merge the physical elements of nature with more energetic brushstrokes and bolder colors, influenced by a bit of the Expressionist movement.
My latest works depict different natural environments – from rough seas and peaceful sunsets; to the fall season and mountainous terrain. These subjects that unfold on canvas are part of my imagination. My ideas come from my dreams, my emotions and what I see around me.
The paintings in this exhibition are made using acrylic paint and various techniques on wood panels, cotton canvases and other stretched fabrics. Finger painting and using only one brush size to fully complete a piece are just a few of the experiments I have explored.
“Fusion” is the blending of the subject – nature, with new techniques to give a more expressive experience to the viewer. In a way, it is the intersection of Expressionism and Impressionism that interests me. When I look at my work up close, I feel and see the emotion and energy. However, when I step back, the subject; in a real and complete way, slowly appears. When people see my work, I hope they will feel the same feeling and experience!
