Ajax Public Library is opening a brand-new Makerspace in the McLean Community Centre, open to all residents to design, create, and make!
October 6, 2023 - Join the Library at the Makerspace Grand Opening on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Tour the Makerspace, see equipment demonstrations, and get inspired.
The Library Makerspace will provide access to equipment and services that may traditionally be out of reach to customers in terms of cost, space, or skills. 3D printers, laser cutters, recording equipment, musical instruments, embroidery and sewing machines, and more will all be available with just a Library card.
Wondering what you can do in the Makerspace? Some projects that can be completed using Makerspace equipment and services could be:
- Make customer engraved key tags to give as gifts using the laser cutter;
- Design and embroider hats for your pick-up sports league;
- Print sewing machine patterns and then make the piece using the large format printer and sewing machine;
- Replace your board game pieces with the 3D printer;
- Record a podcast or a song in The Booth using musical instruments and recording equipment.
"I'd like to invite the entire community to visit the Makerspace and explore the tools, equipment, and possibilities within," says Sarah Vaisler, Chief Librarian & Executive Officer at Ajax Public Library. "I think you'll be amazed at what you can make, fix, and create! Today's libraries have changed and provide different avenues for learning and I hope everyone will experience it for themselves."
