You will see this decal on the entrance doors to all of our branches and our Corporate Services office.
To receive this designation, we have met the standards of the OCASI Positive Space Assessment Guidelines.
What is a Positive Space?
Positive Spaces are welcoming environments where Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, Pansexual, Genderqueer, etc. (LGBTQ+) newcomers are able to access culturally inclusive services with dignity and respect, and where service providers can work free from discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.

In 2015, all Library staff participated in training provided by PFLAG Durham. Subjects included Trans 101, LGBTQ 101, LGBTQ Customer Service and Cultivating Respect.
We have many items at the Library that are LGBTQ focused. You will find them throughout our Kids, Teen and Adult collections. They include fiction, non fiction, comics, graphic novels, audiobooks, DVDs, and electronic and downloadable resources.
